Analysis: Is the Syrian revolt turning into insurgency?

Analysts say Syria is heading towards a civil war despite the fact that, at first, the opposition was preaching peaceful demonstration. With the Free Syrian Army (FSA), guerrilla style attacks on the Syrian military positions have been on the rise. The FSA has realized it must force the changes in Syria because of Russia’s opposition to any UN condemnation of the regime’s crackdown on protesters and determination to prevent foreign military intervention – which the FSA was counting on. The tactic used by the Assad regime, to present itself as the sole entity capable of saving Syria from civil war, could turn on them as sectarian violence is on the rise across the country.
