Israel presents the Palestinians with its stance on borders

Israel has presented the Palestinians with its position on borders for what would be a Palestinian state, in accordance with the Mideast Quartet’s January 26 deadline. It marks the first time the current Netanyahu government has agreed to discuss the future parameters of a Palestinian state. Molho, Netanyahu’s envoy,  presented Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, with a series of fundamental principles, although the presentation did not include a potential map. In light of Netanyahu’s history with regard to the Palestinian issue, however, it is widely believed that the move is a strictly tactical one, with hopes of pinning the pressure on the Palestinians and making it harder for them to blame Israel for any potential collapse in talks.
